I’m totally ripping this from TPM, but there’s an awful lot going on in this piece about people’s reactions to hearing a virtuoso performance in the context of rush hour.
What a truly amazing article. Kudos to Bell for being willing to subject himself to that level of humiliation. I wonder whether the response would have differed at a different station? The numb minds of functionary bureaucrats…
My god. Unbelievable. But then I’m a musician. I would like to think I would have been compelled to stop.
I’ve seen Joshua Bell play with the St. Louis Symphony (conducted by Leonard Slatkin at the time). He is nothing short of phenomenal. I can’t watch anything with sound here at work but I’m quite intrigued so I’ll watch tonight.
