Whooping Crane Tragedy

Follow the big loud crane

For several years, researchers have been teaching endangered whooping crane chicks how to migrate from Wisconsin to Florida by having them follow an ultralight aircraft. Last weekend’s storms in Florida killed all 18 of this season’s migrants, a huge blow for a species that numbers around 300. That’s obviously bad for the birds, and I would have to think devastating for the people who devote their lives to raising the money for the project and caring for the birds all along their journey. But that’s force majeure for you..
